Detour is the kind of town Australia prefers to forget. Perched on the remote north-west coast, it has earned a sinister reputation as a place where boats and people vanish, of giant devastating storms and a legacy of brutal racism. Beneath its weathered streets and fishing industry lies a smuggling ring that has kept the town alive for decades and will kill to protect itself.

When a former naval intelligence officer, Leon Spar arrives to command the governments newly constructed Surveillance Tower, he comes as a man overwhelmed with anger and grief. Haunted by the tragic slaughter of his wife and child in a 7-11 holdup gone wrong, he has little interest in winning over a town which despises everything his uniform represents. His posting to Detour is a destination at the end of the world, a world he is grateful to turn his back on.

After the wreckage of a fishing trawler is found drifting offshore, Leon is forced into an investigation that slowly uncovers a history of violence and superstition. The mysterious Aboriginal Koradji Man warns him that an ancient force called Kunara from the Dreamtime has awakened to bring vengeance on the town for the generations of bloodshed and betrayal.

As incidents begin to mount of deserted boats, missing people and of a monster haunting the outlying beaches and rivers, Leon finds himself trapped between the ruthless gang of smugglers, a town built on lies and a supernatural power that cannot be bargained with. As the natural and unnatural worlds collide he discovers that some evils are created by men while others have been lying there, waiting...

Foodchain: a sci-fi set in the future, where four friends discover their exciting fishing holiday isn't quite what they thought it would be...remember when you turn out the lights, it was only a story. .
